Oh Martha Monday - Going Batty!

Call me crazy, but I think bats are kinda cute.  Maybe not their creepy rubbery wings or their propensity for rabies, but their faces?  Their faces remind me of a little fox (at least some of the Australian fruit bats are like that).  Anyhow, bats are perfect for Halloween and, because of their simple shape, are pretty easy to assemble whether it's for a costume or decor.

Can you believe Halloween is next Monday??!!  Have a great week!

[Make] A Cute Spider Costume

This year Smarty Pants knew exactly what he wanted to be for Halloween-- Spiderman!  When I asked his 3 year old brother  what he wanted to be, I expected him to say Spiderman too (he's his brothers little shadow).  However, he insisted that he really wanted to be a spider.  Spider?  I can do that!  So that's how I came to make my first ever Halloween costume.  I think Happy Vee is pretty happy with the outcome.

Sephora Friends & Family 2011

It's that time of year again-- Time to stock up on your cosmetic essentials!  Just like Christmas decorations appearing in stores right after they move out the summer stock, this event seems to be occuring earlier and earlier each year. However, if you miss it, I wouldn't worry too much... I've a feeling this is not the last of the Sephora F&F deals this year.

[as seen on musing of a muse]

They're doing it a little differently this year.  Instead of one code for everyone, this time you need to click on their site  sephoralove.com/friendsandfamily, enter your email address and you will be given a one-time 20% off code that's good for an online purchase through November 2nd.  Shipping is free if you spend $50+. I hate giving out my email address (more junk mail), but since they already have it from past transactions, I figure it can't hurt.

Here's what is on my list-- my tried and true foundation, fun eyeliners, a new preventative face cream and a neutral lipstick.

I'm getting older in a couple weeks, so I'm really looking forward to that face cream! Preserve & prevent is my motto.  ;)

Groovy Bugs

A few creepy crawlies to get you in the mood for Halloween.

If you're ever in Victoria, B.C., the trip is not complete without a visit to the Victoria Bug Zoo

The Butchart Gardens is wonderful, but The Bug Zoo?  It's FANTASTIC!  It's educational and also a lot of fun... if you don't mind getting squeamish... which is really half the fun... right?  My kids are not adventurous at all (heck, they scream whenever they see a tiny little house spider), but they loved it.  According to Smarty Pants, it was the BEST zoo he's ever been to.

happy vee was a little shell shocked at first...

but then he fell in love with mr. stick bug.

smarty pants surprised me when he volunteered to hold all of the bugs (at home, tiny gnats freak him out, so this was slightly out of character).  by the end of our visit, he was practically kissing them!

Heh, heh.  Squeamish yet?

Oh Martha Monday - Costumes

Halloween is just around the bend... do you have your costume(s) in order?  Here are some original DIY Halloween costume ideas from Martha Stewart--

This weekend I made my first ever Halloween costume (I'll share it later this week).  I thought I was ahead of the game and was so excited to have completed Happy Vee's costume before October 31st... but then I  just found out that I need to make a Halloween costume for myself as well. Gah! I'm so glad I looked on Martha's site-- I'm leaning towards the bat headband for myself... maybe with some cool bat sunglasses to go with it.
Happy Monday!
