[Make] Felt Rose Tree

I love Christmas.  Apparently I love Christmas Trees too.  Over the past couple of years, I've made several handmade trees. Here's my collection as of last year--

I really love working with white wool felt. It's easy to work with, has a clean look and the details really stand out. Since I have several 12-inch trees, I decided to make some smaller ones to give a little visual diversity.  That's how this White Felt Rose Tree came about--

Felt Rose Tree Instructions

What you need:
1/4 yard wool felt (this generously covered a 6-inch tree with more to spare)
sharp scissors
tree form (I used a 6-inch styrofoam cone, but a papier mache cone or one made from a cereal box is more economical)
hot glue gun

1. Cut a piece of felt into a 3 X 9 inch strip.  Fold into thirds (equivalent to three 3-inch squares) and cut a spiral, starting at the outer edge.
2. For a rose-petal look, cut some waves into your spiral.  If you like a uniform circular look, cut the spiral into a clean circle.
3. Cut out several spirals.
4. Begin creating the rose by starting at the center of the spiral and twirling the felt around until you reach the end.
5. The almost complete rose...
6. Put a healthy dollop of hot glue on the bottom of the rose, making sure that even the center pieces are covered in glue.  Let dry.
7. Don't let your scraps go to waste!  Cut out smaller flowers using the leftover scraps from the original "squares".  I like the mix of large and small flowers on the tree.
8. The finished roses.
9. Then the fun begins! Start at the tip of your tree.  Glue a rose at the top and work your way down and around.
10. Keep gluing until you reach the bottom....

The finished Felt Rose Tree!

More trees (and ornaments) to come!
