[Home] "Light as a Feather" Winter Mantel

I love feathers.  They're light, airy and just seem so darn carefree.  I knew that I wanted to use them in some sort of decor this year, and now seems like the perfect time since I'm always at a loss on how to decorate for winter.  After the holidays, doesn't everything else pale in comparison?  I had a bunch of white feathers on-hand, so that pretty much sealed the deal.  I shopped my house for the rest of the decor and it just came together.

i created the feather backdrop by tying translucent thread to a wood dowel, gluing on the feathers, then throwing the dowel over the top of the frame.  instant floating feathers!

So my mantel looks like wintry, but it's 80 degrees outside.  Oh well, I'm not complaining. My favorite part?  The picture frame that I stuck a mirror in.  Nothing fancy, but I just like it.  I'm thinking of distressing it so that it fits in with all that mercury glass. Hmmmm... another day though.  :)
