Guess who got his Big Boy Bed! This weekend we put together Happy Vee's first bed.  He was very excited.  Not excited enough to actually sleep in it, but hey, it's a start.

While Spring cleaning this weekend I came across a roll of white tulle. What does one do with a roll of white tulle besides wrap wedding presents and make big fluffy tulle balls? Then I got to thinking... Well how about big fluffy Tulle Eggs?

Oh Martha Monday - St. Patrick's Day

My favorite part of St. Patrick's Day is not beer, wearing green or even a lively parade. My favorite part is a good hearty serving of corned beef and cabbage.  Mmmmm good! My son is fascinated with leprechauns and the tricks that they play, so I may do something simple with green... How about you? Do you do anything special for St. Patty's?

[Make] Shamrock Window Clings

Today I was in full-blown Easter mode when my 5 year old threw me for a loop with this question-- "Way-da-minute mommy...What about St. Patrick's Day?".  Wha?  Oh yeah... Evidently leprechauns have been playing tricks at his school so he's really into it this year.

I've been using washi tape to hang the boys' artwork on our kitchen windows (my favorite place to display their colorful art) and noticed their nice translucent quality.   Then I got to thinking-- pretty colors, removable, easy to cut into fun shapes... And that's how these washi tape shamrock window decals were born.

the hardest part of this project was trying to photograph them against the light...

[Upcycle] Moss Vases

I love repurposing recyclable materials-- they're sturdy, usually come in nice, simple shapes and more importantly... they're FREE!   I've repurposed a few bottles for past projects, but I think that these moss vases are my favorite yet.  They're simple and, with the natural elements and texture, make an interesting focal point.

[Make] Washi Eggs

This weekend I decided to delve into some Easter crafts.  I've been wanting to make Washi Eggs for a while now, so it seemed like the right place to start.  Instead of using traditional Japanese washi paper though, I decided to create an updated version using polka dot waxed tissue paper.  I also used a plastic egg instead of a handblown one-- I know my limits!  :)

The first egg took a while-- measuring, drawing lines, cutting & gluing will do that.  But once I got it down, the process sped up a bit.

[Oh Martha Monday] Punchy Pink

There was a time when I wanted NOTHING to do with the color pink.  I got rid of my pink bedspread and pink canopy,  peeled off the pink wallpaper in my childhood room, hid the pink lampshade, and took down the pink mini blinds-- It was a pink asylum!  Then I painted my walls white and bought a blue bedspread-- What a rebel I tell ya.  Twenty five years later and I'm starting to like pink again.  No pepto bismal though, just bright punchy pink!  Here's some fun pink inspiration from Martha Stewart-

Any plans for this weekend?  Aside from Smarty Pant's first baseball game, our schedule should be pretty relaxed.  I can't wait to see my little "dodger" in action-- a bunch of 5 year olds playing ball... What can be better than that?

My plan is to work on some Spring and Easter crafts this weekend.  I've been in a creative funk lately and have stepped away from crafting for the last month or so.  Although my kitchen island is happy that it's not covered in glue and paint,  my creative soul has been a little... bummed.   So I'm looking forward to getting back to it-- Mess and all!

[Eat] Kiwi Berries

If you like kiwi fruit, you'll have to try out these kiwi berries.  They're about the size of an olive, fuzz free and sweeter than their larger cousins. They're a little pricey though and I could probably eat the tiny container of them in one sitting, so they definitely fall into the "novelty" category.  But they are good. Just make sure that the berry is soft before you pop one in your mouth.  I tried a crunchy one and my eyes bugged-out and my throat itched for a few minutes-- just like eating a kiwi fruit that is a little too green.

And they even look like a kiwi on the inside...
