[Make] Polka Dot Pumpkin Vase

I love pumpkins, I love polka dots... Of course I had to make a Polka Dot Pumpkin!  Then after seeing this pumpkin vase from Chatelaine on Pinterest, I knew that I had to have a Polka Dot Pumpkin Vase.  Try saying that fast 3 times.  :)

Polka Dot Gold Leaf Pumpkin Vase

I like longevity out of my projects, so I used a white craft pumpkin for my vase.  I just cut off the top like I would a real pumpkin*.

If you're going to use your vase with fresh flowers, be sure to make the cut-out large enough to fit a vase insert.

*If you use a real pumpkin... I have not tried this and cannot vouch for how helpful it is, but if you decide to use a real pumpkin, you may want to try these pumpkin preservation tips from HGTV.

I wanted to try Liquid Leafing, so I used this product to paint my pumpkin.  In hindsight, with all the fumes and precautions that go along with using liquid leaf, I would've skipped it and used a gold metallic acrylic paint instead.  My favorite acrylic metallic paints to work with are from the DecoArt and Martha Stewart lines.

for a smooth finish, use a soft wide paint brush or foam brush

I added the white dots with a paint pen.  I used this medium-tip pen and it was easy to work with.
paint on the first layer of dots then let dry before painting subsequent coats.

The finished pumpkin vase...

Add the vase insert...
I used a couple of glue dots on the bottom of the vase to keep it from moving around inside the pumpkin.

Add the water and flowers...

A pretty polka dot pumpkin vase!
I love dahlias!

Little Happy Vee stayed home from preschool today.  He had a high fever last night and is sleeping in.  Poor little guy.  Thankfully Tuesday is our "down" day so he can rest and get better quickly.

I hope you're having a nice week!
