The Kitchen - Hidden Spaces

We were in the final phase of building our kitchen island when an opportunity for additional organizational space presented itself.  I was so happy to find functionality in a place that almost didn't exist. Here's a little look-see...

The side of the center island houses a beverage refrigerator and....

something so cool...

something that adds a bit of "something-something" to my life...

slowly now, wait for it...

just a little peek...

A stealthy spice cabinet!!!

What??!!

Not exciting enough?

{sigh}

You're so jaded!

Anyhow, with only 2 inches of depth, this was going to be dead space-- the contractor was going to nail the panel shut.  The Mister came up with the idea of adding a few shelves and turning this "useless" space into a spice cabinet.

Brilliant!

Now, I'm not the only one who made out on the deal.

I got a spice cabinet and,

on the other side of the island,

the boys got...

a multi-level garage!

Boys and their toys.

If I had girls, I guess it could've been an apartment for Polly Pocket. {snicker}
